Wang Feng · Chinese, 32 years old
Wang Feng is a native of the city of Zaozhuang in Shandong, China. His father worked at a state-owned company and his family was relatively well-off, but in 1998 he contracted myelitis, an inflamation of the spinal cord, and was paralyzed from the waist down. Not five days after his diagnosis, Wang Feng’s father, who had placed all of his hope in his only son, took his own life, leaving Wang Feng, his younger sister and mother alone. Wang Feng spent several years isolated, unwilling to go out and interact with people.
The support of friends and family, and a new, lightweight wheelchair gave him the confidence to become more independent and active. In 2013 he was offered a job in Shanghai and while there met with Domonic and Joshua, remaining in contact with them over the coming months. In April 2014, Wang Feng came to Hangzhou to take part in the Krankin’ thru China handcycling clinic and share his newly found passion for sports and fitness, and how it has changed his life.
Wang Feng proved to be a natural athlete during the Yunnan Mountain Trek and is currently training with his new handcycle. Wang Feng will lead handcycling activities around China along with Joshua and share his new-found joy for sports with others like him.
