Dream Ride 2020 - the mongolian trek

THE MONGOLIAN TREK - Mohe to Huhhot
Our next Dream Ride will continue on from Mohe and pass through the grasslands of Inner Mongolia to its capital at Huhhot.

This year our focus will once again be on creating awareness and changing perceptions among as many people as we can through our actions and our attitude, sending out messages of inclusion ability and a universal love of cycling.

One again, our team will consist of people of all abilities and nationalities to ensure that we not only change the people around us, but change ourselves by learning about other cultures, our own individual abilities and how to work as a team despite our individual disadvantages, be they physical, linguistic or psychological.

We will reach out to local cycling clubs, the Disabled Persons' Federation and anyone we meet along the way, sharing our stories with them and learning their stories. In this, we learn about the lives and needs of people in these areas, but we are also able to tell their stories to the world and promote understanding.

route description

  1. Arrival in Beijing
The team will arrive in Beijing for an equipment check and a launch event before      leaving by plane to Mohe.

2. Mohe to Hulun Buir (560km)

Following arrival in Mohe, we will meet with local organizations including cycling       groups and representatives from the Disabled Persons' Federation and disabled       community before setting off.

The route from Mohe to Hulun Buir begins with the forested mountainous                  terrain of the Dahingan Range, gradually descending onto the grasslands of                Inner Mongolia before arriving where we will reach our first destination: Hulun          Buir.

In Hulun Buir, gateway to a border crossing with Russia, we will once again meet       with cyclists, the local Disabled Persons' Federation and members of the                     disabled community.

3. Hulun Buir to Huolin Gol (700km)

Continuing on from Hulun Buir, we will cross over the eastern heartland of the           Mongolian people, stopping off in the city of Arxan on the mountainous eastern       edge of the country of Mongolia.

From the mountains, we continue on to the great grassland plains of Inner                 Mongolia, which are full and green this time of year, finally arriving in the                   medium sized city of Huolin Gol. There we will meet again with local                             communities and hold exchanges to give people the chance to learn about and         experience handcycling.

4. Huolin Gol to Xilin Gol (350km)

Proceeding along the grasslands, we will pass closer and closer to the more               developed parts of Inner Mongolia, finding more urban centers and more                   urbanized lands compared to the expanses of the grasslands.

We will also continue to interact with cyclists and the disabled community along       the way, allowing both cycling enthusiasts and the disabled community to                   experience handcycling, especially in Xilin Gol, another urban center.

5. Xilin Gol to Huhhot (560km)

From Xilin Gol, we will see how modernization and urbanization has changed the       grasslands, for the better and for the worse. However, the spirit of the Mongol           people remains and this will give us a chance to see how the modern and the             traditional meet.

Once in Huhhot, we will experience the most modern city in Inner Mongolia, the        provincial capital. Here we will meet with some of the largest groups of cyclists          and members of the disabled community, giving us even more opportunity to            share our experiences along the road.

6. Return to Beijing

From the final stop in our journey, we will take a sleeper train back to                           Beijing where, if those who have come from far away can stay for several more         days, visit the Great Wall, the Forbidden City and all of the other modern and             ancient wonders of this great capital city.
