Building on previous outreach activities, the team of Domonic Corradin and Joshua Dominick from Krankin’ thru China is planning a trek through Yunnan Province in southwest China that will begin in the foothills of the Himalayas in the city of Shangri-la, pass through some of the most beautiful and stunning landscapes China has to offer and include sites like Tiger Leaping Gorge, Jade Mountain, the ancient town of Lijiang and the walled city of Dali.
Domonic and Joshua will be joined by three more disabled athletes and the entire team will be on handcycles, carrying their own equipment and each responsible for doing their part throughout the trek.
In addition to our own desire explore the remote reaches of China and go for the extreme, the ultimate goal of this trek is to raise awareness about handcycling and disabled sports, but in a greater sense to also inspire people to explore the world around and push their own limits.
As part of our on-going effort to grow the sport of handcycling in China, part of the proceeds we raise for this trip will go to purchasing several handcycles, which will be made available for use through our partner in Hangzhou either through events that we hold or for individual rental.

Trip Route
We will depart from Shangri-la after aclimatizing to an elevation of 3,600m above sea level (nearly 11,000 feet), starting into the mountains along the East Ring Road, a provincial road with sheer drops and switchback after switchback, truly challenging our athletes. We will continue along this road passing through a number of Tibetan prefectures until we come to the White Terrace Waterfall, a series of limestone formations on the side of a cliff fed by mineral-rich spring water. We will follow this road until we meet up with the headwaters of the Yangtze River, which we will follow to the southwest until we come to Tiger Leaping Gorge, one of the deepest gorges in the Hymalayian foothills. From here we will turn on to a slightly larger national highway that will take us to the UNESCO Heritage Site of Lijiang, home to the Naxi people. From here, we will continue on until we come to the northern end of Erhai Lake and the walled city of Dali where we will end the cycling portion of our trip. We will take a train to Kunming where we will meet with local officials and organizations before ending our adventure in Hong Kong. |
